Customer thermal test comparing results with Solaria model shows excellent correlation
0.033" thick steel plate
Vertically oriented
natural convection
Backside insulated with polystyrene
Defined heat source of 5.44 Watts
Front side painted flat black to reduce IR camera uncertainty
Below is shown the Solaria thermal model
Temperature difference dependent natural convection heat transfer coefficient using correlation built into Solaria, with radiation
IR camera results
Solaria results showing the back side of the plate, showing the cartridge heater. Model showed that 2.36 Watts was lost by radiation, 2.9 Watts by convection and 0.18 Watts off the back side of the insulation.
Solaria model predicted 46.5C maximum temperature
The test results showed 46.4C maximum temperature
A customer performed a rather simple thermal test to gain experience with their IR camera and to make initial thermal model comparisons.
